Reflections on Stephen Herrod's Keynote this morning?

Was I the only nerd sitting at this keynote feeling like a kid in the candy store? What an impressive array of innovation! My highlights are ranked as follows:
1. vCenter as a virtual appliance!
2. VI Client for any client platform
3. Client hypervisor
4. Linked clones and quick prep of VDI images.

With the number 1 and 2 announcements above, VMware basically moved Microsoft to a back seat. That announcement could be the first nail in Microsoft's coffin, which I completely realize will be a long time in the making.

After the rocky summer for VMware (Diane's ousting, Mendel resigning, and the timebomb), this morning's keynote erased all doubt that this company was moving away from its pioneering and innovative role in the industry. Hiring Paul hasn't turned VMware into Microsoft with a protectionist/anti-competitive strategy. But instead, it feels like they just cloned their race car into 3, and all 3 are racing in 3 different directions of innovation: VDC-OS, vCloud, and vClient. I am jazzed about the future of VMware again. And I am completely stoked about what will be possible b/c of these innovations.
